Your Newborn Portrait Session

If you are interested in booking a newborn session first of all – congratulations! It would be wonderful to welcome you to my studio to create images of a very special time in your life.

I’m sure you have a few questions about what is involved and how the sessions work. Let me help with the where, when, what and how….

When to book your session date? The best time to have a newborn session is when your new arrival is between 7 and 14 days old. Babies sleep a lot during the first two weeks and it is easier to settle them. You can have course have your session later but some poses may not be possible and it may take longer if your little one is not feeling it. That’s not a problem as we work around your baby and nothing is rushed.

Bookings are taken around 4 or 5 months in advance so once you’ve had your 20-week scan we can pencil in a date. It’s flexible – your baby would not be the first to completely ignore due dates! I ask for a £40 deposit when you book which is credit towards your final order.

Where does the session take place? The majority are in my studio which is warm and welcoming with enough space for parents to relax . You’ll be able to change and feed your baby and take time to settle them. My studio is at 127 Clarence Road, just outside Sutton Coldfield. There’s plenty of space to park and there are some lovely restaurants and cafes just down the road if you want to make a day of it. I can also come to your home if you prefer.

What happens once we’ve booked? You’ll have a telephone or in person consultation before your session. We can talk about poses, wardrobe and what you can expect in the session. Both parents are welcome, as well as siblings, if you’d like a family portraits. Generally, newborn portraits take around 2 to 4 hours depending on the range of pictures, the number of people and how everyone is feeling. There’s time for breaks and feeds. Your session is tailored to your needs which we can discuss in the consultation. You can follow my Facebook page for the latest news and images.

What does the portrait session include?

  • A consultation around two or three weeks before you come to the studio.
  • The session itself with use of wraps, fabrics and props.
  • A viewing and ordering session around two weeks later.

You can also choose to have your hair and make-up done. Once you’ve booked we can chat in detail about your session and I’ll be on hand to offer advice and answer your questions before and after the session.

How does the viewing and ordering session work? At the end of your newborn session we arrange a date for you to come into the studio to see your images. You’ll take away a product guide with advice on how to choose your package. I’d encourage you to spend a little time thinking about how you’d like to share and show your images before your viewing appointment.

Viewing appointments can take place in the evening or during the day. You’ll see all of your beautiful images on a slideshow and a selection of prints. I have a range of frames, albums and prints in the studio to help you with your choices. Your £40 deposit can be put towards your order at the viewing session. I offer a range of collections to suit tastes and budgets.
